Edit Mail Server Settings In Email Clients Print

You may want to update your mail server settings especially if the host names have been changed from your servers.  Learn how to edit mail server settings in your email clients:

• Outlook Express
• Outlook 2003
• Outlook 2007
• Outlook 2010
• Outlook 2013
• Outlook 2016
• Mac Mail
• Thunderbird
• Windows Live Mail

Step 1. Open Outlook Express.

Step 2. Click on “Tools” located on top and click on “Accounts”.  (Click the image to zoom.)

Step 3. Double-click on the email account. (Click the image to zoom.)

Step 4. Select “Servers” on the top tab and check the My server required authentication under Outgoing Mail Server sub.

Step 5. Modify the mail servers in the Incoming mail and Outgoing mail fields.

Step 6. Click “Apply” and click on the “Advanced” tab located at the top.

Step 7. SSL setup:

• Check the box for “This server requires a secure connection(SSL)” under Outgoing mail and change the outgoing port to “465”.
• Check the box for “This server requires a secure connection(SSL)” under Incoming mail and change the incoming port to “993” for IMAP  or “995” for POP3.

NON-SSL setup:

• Change the outgoing port to “25“.
• Change the incoming port to “143” for IMAP or “110” for POP3.

Step 8. Click “Apply” and “OK“.

Step 1. Open Outlook 2003.

Step 2. Click Tools and select E-mail Accounts.

Step 3. Select ‘View or change existing e-mail accounts‘. Click Next.

Step 4. Select the e-mail account you want to modify and click ‘Change’.

Step 5. Modify the following:

• Incoming mail server (POP/IMAP)
• Outgoing mail server (SMTP)

(‘Remember password’ is optional.)

Step 6. Click ‘More Settings’.

Step 7. Select the Outgoing Server tab from the top of the new window that opens.

Step 8. Check the box for My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication and ensure that Use same settings as my incoming mail server should be selected. Next, click the Advanced tab at the top of the window.

Step 9. Modify the port numbers.

SSL setup:

• Check the box for “This server requires an encrypted connection(SSL)” under Incoming server (IMAP/POP3) and change the incoming port to “993” for IMAP  or “995” for POP3.
• Check the box for “This server requires an encrypted connection(SSL)” under Outgoing server (SMTP) and change the outgoing port to “465”.

NON-SSL setup:

• Change the incoming port to “143” for IMAP or “110” for POP3.
• Change the outgoing port to “25“.

Step 10. Click OK.

Step 11. Click the Next button to save the E-mail Settings.

Step 12. Click the Finish button.

Step 1. Open Outlook 2007.

Step 2. Click Tools and select Account Settings.

Step 3. Select the e-mail account you want to modify and click ‘Change’.

Step 4. Modify the following:

• Incoming mail server (POP/IMAP)
• Outgoing mail server (SMTP)

(‘Remember password’ is optional.)

Step 6. Click ‘More Settings’.

Step 7. Select the “Outgoing Server” tab from the top of the new window that opens.

Step 8. Check the box for “My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication” and ensure that “Use same settings as my incoming mail server” is selected. Next, click the Advanced tab at the top of the window.

Step 9. Modify the port numbers and SSL connection.

SSL setup:

• Click the drop down ‘Use the following type of encrypted connection’ under Incoming server (IMAP/POP3) and select SSL. Change the incoming port to “993” for IMAP  or “995” for POP3.
• Click the drop down ‘Use the following type of encrypted connection’ under Outgoing server (SMTP) nd select SSL. Change the outgoing port to “465”.

NON-SSL setup:

• Click the drop down ‘Use the following type of encrypted connection’ under Incoming server (IMAP/POP3) and select None. Change the incoming port to “143” for IMAP or “110” for POP3.
• Click the drop down ‘Use the following type of encrypted connection’ under Incoming server (IMAP/POP3) and select None. Change the outgoing port to “25“.

Step 10. Now you can click the Test Account Settings button to verify that the e-mail account can send and receive mail.

Step 11. If the part of the test fails, go through the previous steps and double-check all of your settings in Outlook. If the test is successful, click the Close button.

Step 12. Click the Next button.

Step 13. Click the Finish button.

Step 1. Open Outlook 2010.

Step 2. Click File.

Step 3. In the Info tab, click Account Settings and select ‘Account Settings… Add and remove accounts or change existing connection settings.’

Step 3. Select the e-mail account you want to modify and click ‘Change’.

Step 4. Modify the following:

• Incoming mail server (POP/IMAP)
• Outgoing mail server (SMTP)

(‘Remember password’ is optional.)

Step 5. Click ‘More Settings’.

Step 7. Click on Outgoing Server tab in the Internet Email Settings window.

Step 7. Check the box for My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication and choose the radio button Use same settings as my incoming mail server is selected. Click the Advanced tab.

Step 8. Modify the port numbers and SSL connection.

SSL setup:

• Click the drop down ‘Use the following type of encrypted connection’ under Incoming server (IMAP/POP3) and select SSL. Change the incoming port to “993” for IMAP  or “995” for POP3.
• Click the drop down ‘Use the following type of encrypted connection’ under Outgoing server (SMTP) nd select SSL. Change the outgoing port to “465”.

NON-SSL setup:

• Click the drop down ‘Use the following type of encrypted connection’ under Incoming server (IMAP/POP3) and select None. Change the incoming port to “143” for IMAP or “110” for POP3.
• Click the drop down ‘Use the following type of encrypted connection’ under Incoming server (IMAP/POP3) and select None. Change the outgoing port to “25“.

Step 9. Click on Test Account Settings button or Next button to check the connection settings of the email account. If the test connection fails, go through the previous steps and double-check all of your settings in Outlook 2016. If the test is successful, click the Close button.

Step 10. Click on Finish button.

Step 2. Click File.

Step 3. In the Info tab, click Account Settings and select ‘Account Settings… Add and remove accounts or change existing connection settings.’

Step 4. Select the e-mail account you want to modify and click ‘Change’.

Step 5. Modify the following:

• Incoming mail server (POP/IMAP)
• Outgoing mail server (SMTP)

(‘Remember password’ is optional.)

Step 6. Click ‘More Settings’.

Step 7. Click on Outgoing Server tab in the Internet Email Settings window.

Step 7. Check the box for My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication and choose the radio button Use same settings as my incoming mail server is selected. Click the Advanced tab.
